Antifouling and hull cleaning, without you having to be there.

A fouled hull sails worse and burns more fuel. We take care of everything, from the lift-out to the relaunch, and send you a report with before-and-after photos.

The underwater hull is the part of the hull below the waterline. In the Mediterranean it is covered within a few months by weed, barnacles and other growth that slows the boat down, increases fuel consumption and, over time, damages the gelcoat.

Antifouling is the paint that prevents it. At RexMaris we handle the whole process in Marina Palamós and Port d'Aro: we book the haul-out, clean the hull, prepare the surface, apply the antifouling, paint the propellers and put the boat back in the water.

What is included

  • Haul-out arranged with the boatyard
  • Pressure washing and removal of marine growth
  • Sanding and surface preparation
  • Antifouling application
  • Propeller painting
  • Before-and-after report

Why antifoul every season

A clean hull glides better: the boat gets its speed back, uses less fuel and the engines work less hard. Antifouling also protects the gelcoat on the underwater hull and delays bigger problems such as osmosis.

Most antifouling paints lose their effectiveness within a season. That is why it is usually renewed once a year, using the haul-out to check the anodes, propellers and seacocks as well.

When is the best time?

Before the season starts, so you can sail all summer with a clean hull. It is worth booking early: in spring the Costa Brava boatyards fill up. If your boat sails all year round, we will find the date that suits you best.

Which antifouling to choose

Not every antifouling suits every boat. It depends on the boat's speed, how much it sails and whether it spends long periods idle. We explain the options before we start and recommend the one that best fits the way you use your boat.

Frequently asked questions

How often does a boat need antifouling?

Normally once a year, before the season. It depends on how the boat is used and the type of antifouling.

Do I need to be there?

No. We arrange the haul-out and keep you informed at every step.

How long is the boat out of the water?

Just long enough to clean, prepare and let the antifouling dry between coats. It depends on the condition of the hull and the weather; we confirm the dates when we book the haul-out.

How much does it cost to antifoul the underwater hull?

It depends on the boat's length and the condition of the hull. We give you a fixed-price quote before we start. The Platinum plan includes the annual haul-out with antifouling.

What is the difference between hull cleaning and antifouling?

Hull cleaning removes whatever has attached itself to the hull; antifouling is the paint that stops it coming back. For antifouling to work, the hull must be clean and properly prepared.
